Bringing Nature Inside

Bringing Nature Inside

It's a well known fact at this point: incorporating time outdoors, with the fresh air in your lungs, the grass and moss beneath your bare feet, the birds' trills in your ears, and the sights of the natural world encapsulating your line of sight does wonders for our beings. It grounds us; lifting our spirits while making the stressors of daily human life seem smaller in the grand scheme of the living world and its moving parts. But have we translated this concept to our inside spaces?

When we bring a piece of furniture into our homes, it makes a big impact on the ambiance, energy, and overall tone of the space. What if we made more of an effort to prioritize wood that was traceable? A tree we knew. A tree that served our cities, not one grown to be cut, but one that offered shade, oxygen, and beauty to its neighbours? These pieces add an element of nature to our otherwise unnatural, constructed spaces, and it makes a difference. Each time you run a hand across a cube that is a local tree, each time you roll dough with a pin made from a single piece of a tree's limb, and each time you rest your tea on a coffee table that was shaped by nature's lines and knots, you're adding your connectedness to the outside world. You're bringing nature inside, and it matters.

So whatever your next purchase for a room in your inside sanctuary, your home, make an effort to bring nature inside and feel the grounding effects. Your natural self, your spirit, will thank you.
