Our Story: Becoming Woodsy
Woodsy's origin story is one of those tales when a problem just lands in your lap. You then have two choices - nod and carry on with your life, or take action.
Just be Woodsy co-founder, Robert, came across a magazine article while on a summer visit to his family's cottage. In it, there was an article about urban waste wood - about the massive piles of urban trees in Canada that come down for various reasons and are ground into mulch.
He was at a crossroads in his life where he was looking for a mission with more meaning and purpose, and it clicked - why aren't we returning these century-old hardwood trees back into the community as more meaningful pieces? The mission was born.
Today, Just be Woodsy embodies that mission daily - we save urban logs from being disposed of, mill and dry them at our Canadian facility, and woodwork the material by hand into beautiful pieces for your homes, workspaces, and community hubs.
Almost a decade after reading that original article, and after many learning curves, Woodsy now proudly offers a catalogue line where each piece carries a unique story - the celebration of a Canadian tree that served our cities and now lives on. Each piece comes lasered with the wood species and leaf mark, helping you connect further with Canada's incredible canopy. And whenever possible, the coordinates of where the tree lived is also laser engraved, forever preserving that tree's place of life.
Our vision is to see a world where resources grown are not wasted. Where wood isn't grown and harvested elsewhere to serve a local furniture need, when we have everything we need right here to serve the market. A world where furniture has meaning, stories, and a sense of celebration and gratitude toward the trees we share space with. What meaning does an IKEA table purchase bring? What story is linked to your Wayfair purchase fabricated overseas? It's time we support purchases with purpose.
Our mission is to make these purposeful purchases feel sleek and warm in your spaces. We strive to let nature inspire and shape the look of our products, while using careful craftwork to offer a premium, well designed line of items.
